Protect Small Businesses from Costly Healthcare Mandates

Small businesses are the backbone of our state’s economy, employing over 40% Arizona’s workers. One of the ongoing challenges for small businesses is balancing the responsibility of offering quality healthcare coverage for employees and their families, while also keeping rising costs at bay. To better manage this obstacle, small businesses rely on the ability to create flexible health plans that allow them to address the unique needs of their company. However, every legislative session, some Arizona lawmakers push harmful mandates that would make it more difficult for an employer to offer affordable healthcare benefits. Unnecessary regulations that limit how businesses work with healthcare providers would increase costs for employers and employees alike, resulting in higher prescription drug costs, more expensive premiums and higher deductibles.

The last thing that hardworking Arizonans need to worry about is rising healthcare costs. In the West Valley, we are fortunate to have legislators, like Representative Livingston and others, who consistently oppose mandates that would hinder businesses’ ability to provide jobs with good benefits. Good policy can be balanced by encouraging a fair, competitive, free market environment that benefits small businesses and, ultimately, individual consumers. Please let your legislators know that small businesses do not support misguided mandates that raise costs for Arizona employers and families.
