The Kick-Off for Relay for Life of Peoria 2010 is Thursday, January 21st, 6:30 p.m at New Life Community Church, located at 8155 W. Thunderbird Road. We all know someone who has been affected by cancer and Relay for Life gives everyone a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease.
Relay for Life of Peoria is an all-night event, which will take place April 24-25 at Peoria Sports Complex. Hundreds of people from various relay teams will be walking the baseball track all night to raise money for cancer research, education and awareness since “cancer never sleeps.” The theme “Rockin ‘N Walkin in the Fight Against Cancer” will also honor cancer survivors, who will take the initial victory lap to kick off the Relay as we honor the courage of our family and friends who have defeated cancer, celebrate their victory and unite us all in hope.
We can all help raise awareness and take a position to fight cancer. The kick-off event will provide needed information for potential participants, teams, survivors and volunteers. Mayor Bob Barrett has named Relay for Life of Peoria his “Charity of the Year” and will be hand to give a short presentation on the importance of supporting Relay for Life of Peoria 2010. Come and see what it’s all about! Texas Roadhouse will provide finger foods, others have donated raffles and giveaways and discover your place to get involved.
Last year, more than $215,000 was raised for the American Cancer Society. This year Peoria’s Relay is looking for 500+ survivors and over 100 teams to help them reach their goal of more than $250,000 in 2010. Relay For Life can use team captains, team members, volunteers, survivors of cancer, donations and sponsors. For more information and how to get involved contact Gina Kowacz, the event's chair, at relay@nlcc.org or (623) 695-8058
