Leaders from the Tohono O'odham Nation, including Chairman Ned Norris, Jr. joined David Jones, President/CEO, Arizona Contractors Association and Mayor of Peoria, Bob Barrett, to blast those who are critical of the proposed project.

Leader of the Tohono O'odham Nation, Norris challenged Trent Franks to a public forum to discuss his actions and position on the issue and commented “If we’re breaking the law, why is the opposition trying to change the law?” he said, referencing House Resolution 2938, created by Franks. “We know there’s strong support for the project.”

Trent Franks is currently sponsoring a bill that would ban most forms of gambling on replacement lands acquired by the reservation system for the Tohono O'odham Nation--amending a 25-year-old agreement between Congress and the tribe.

At a time when everyone is talking about jobs, there were four major construction firms represented at the Chamber luncheon. According to David Jones, over one-third of the jobs lost in Arizona are in the construction industry. He continued "This is the biggest project we see in the near future" Jones who is in support of the project because of the huge number of jobs it would bring to the west valley.

During the panel discussion, Bob Barrett, Peoria's Mayor asked, “Who’s going to oppose jobs? I know people who are out of work and find it tough to put food on the table."

Norris and the Nation have published that 6,000 construction and 3,000 permanent jobs would be created through the West Valley Resort.
